Gas safe?

As bad as it is its very common along with garden hoses connecting cookers and bike inner tubes used as bypasses etc etc

We had one tenant care in the community fruit cake who vacated his flat took the gas cooker with him and plugged off the gas pipe with a wooden duffle coat button / peg watsit

gas was all
Still live

I appreciate I'm stating the obvious, but part of the problem is, in the high majority of cases, when such work is carried out the end result is hidden from view, whether below the floor, behind a wall or in the loft. Okay, quite a few members of the public still wouldn't know good from bad installations even if everything was surface mounted and visible, however because this stuff is hidden away, we're none the wiser re quality of work.

I think that's why drones are useful for looking at things like roofs, another area that the customer couldn't always see properly to determine if the job done was good or bad.

Look at all the vids posted online of new builds where an independent contractor goes in to check faults out. The plumbing, wiring etc they find (behind walls and so on) is often horrendous.

What we don't see doesn't harm us ... except sometimes it can.

I always remember a gas water heater installed by British Gas, for my parents in their home. The numpty gas fitter had used chromed pipe, and had soldered the unions without even attempting to remove the chrome. I would sometimes visit and smell a slight smell of gas, but would simply discount it as their cooker being in use recently. On one visit it was particularly strong in their utility room, so I investigated and found several soldered unions loose on the pipes. I hit the roof with BG.

BG hmmmm - I had them on a contract for a tenant...failed to notice that the condensate drain ball valve was blocked...normal rubbish...its the pcb, its the sparker...no its not its half full of water. More white smoke than a new pope. Never again ever. Lets face it gas safe is just a con...all it means is somebody can do some pipe work that won't leak under minuscule pressure. It does not mean that they can actually fix a boiler.
