...that Labour had no serious plans to stop the boats....

Neither did they!

Hucking fypocrites.

THREE Tory PMs failed to get Rwanda off the ground.

It's labour's fault that they scrapped the only deterrent. Numbers have gone through the roof since they came to power.

Rwanda was far from perfect, but it was acting as a deterrent.

I can't accept any law that says black is white. On principle. I understand Parliament is sovereign.

One thing sounds suspicious to me: with all the islands scattered around the UK, why Rwanda?
Would've been cheaper to build a facility on our territory, difficult to escape into mainland.
Money?

Ascension Island was actually looked at! I can't remember why it was ruled out.

As regards Rwanda, it was the only country which would make a deal with us.

There might also have been legal advantages to doing it in another country. Can't remember!

Rwanda wasn't even in place, bso how can you say it was a deterrent?

3 Tory PMs failed to get Rwanda up and running.

1. The numbers were down.
2. other countries were complaining they were coming there instead.

Rwanda was always going to be slow through the legal process. As I said, it was far from perfect.

The idea of removing people back to a location much closer to where they started is sound.

If they hadn't been taken to court at taxpayers' expense, maybe some illegal immigrants would not be here now.

If it wasn't law thrown together by the legally-illiterate, it would have sailed through any legal challenge.

But your ideological rantings continue to blind you to that fact (y)

They didn't skimp on the lawyering, the Human Rights Act makes it very hard to get such legislation through. They would have got there in the end.

No matter what you think of it, it was pretty dumb to drop it with out a plan B.

Ireland complained that lots of Nigerians students who had overstayed their UK visas and were not subject to the Rwanda policy were coming to Dublin to claim asylum. But the linkage was never explained.
