Like Corbin being offered that ambassadorship? It’s more of an insult that putting him on the back benches.Burnham is widely expected to keep Starmer in a senior job anyway.

still ass uming burningham will win that bye-bye erection and a Labour leadership contest.I heard Burnham being interviewed about various things. He's a lot like Starmer, no particular principles about anything, just vague promises about making everything wonderful. He doesn't seem to have any more concrete ideas than Starmer. I reckon he'd be OK working with Starmer and will give him a job, in fact Starmer will probably demand it in return for politely standing aside after Burnham becomes an MP.
Then Burnham and Starmer's henchmen will bang heads together behind the scenes to ensure that nobody else stands, to avoid a leadership election.
It will be like Blair's handover to Brown - reluctant but swiftly and politely dealt with.

He'll make the remaining labour supporters long for the good old days of Starmer.
Bring on PM Burnham, we won't need much popcorn as he won't last long.
Him and Labour are in much more trouble with the people than they even realise.
You couldn't make this stuff up, but it looks like Labour may win this just because everyone hates them.
I'd also enjoy Labour winning, just to watch them self-destruct under commie Burnham.
Either way, it will be very bad for Labour.
I'm getting the feeling you are not a Labour supporter? So labour looking even worse
Given that I live in the UK in 2026 then that's a fair assumption, along with at least 80% of the rest of the country.I'm getting the feeling you are not a Labour supporter?![]()
Eh? He was a successful well liked politician. You are a bit late to the party boyo.I'll really enjoy PM Burnham crashing and burning
Glad the penny's dropped.after Burnham becomes an MP
He may have done well as mayor, and a while back when there was a previous 'who should lead labour' debate, I thought he could do a good job...He's a decent bloke who's done well as mayor and I think he'd do well as PM.
Like most politicians then?I heard Burnham being interviewed about various things. He's a lot like Starmer, no particular principles about anything, just vague promises about making everything wonderful.
Doubt it. Many of Burnham's potential voters say they're only voting for him to get rid of Starmer. The GE could hinge on this by-election.
You've got to be a special kind of dumb to vote Labor as an ex re form voter who wasn't happy with the toreys.Doubt it. Many of Burnham's potential voters say they're only voting for him to get rid of Starmer.
Labour's failure is making people vote for... Labour. They're making a success of their own failure.
None of this will apply at a future general election - it will be Burnham and Labour being judged on their own track record, which is certain to be a dismal failure.
