In our old house in the bedroom there are 2 single sockets either side of the bed that are basically an extension lead running under the floor popping up next to the only socket in the room with the extension lead terminating in a 3pin plug.
I wish to replace this with a proper fused spur to the bedside sockets.
Are there any double sockets with one side being a 3pin and a fused switch other than the 45amp cooker ones, or do I have to install 2 single boxes?
The existing socket is a ring btw
It used to be allowed to run two spurs of 2.5 T & E on a 2.5mm ring from any point on that ring or for any cable on that ring using a junction box for example if each one was to a single socket or FCU or to one only such as a twin socket.
But that change to 1 twin or 1 single or 1 FCU and I think it was to avoid the possibillity of any future spurred single socket being changed in the future to become up to two twin sockets on a single spur probably by accident (or ignorance) therefore additional possibillity of a calamity
A40 "...Not more than two socket-outlets, or one twin socket-outlet, or one stationary appliance, shall be fed from each non-fused spur."
The 13th Ed. stipulates "...not more than two socket-outlets or one fixed appliance..."
No mention of twin sockets.
I know for a fact they were around in 1955 (the date the 13th Edition was introduced), but they were very rarely fitted. Singles were king.
You would have thought twins would get a mention in the regs, even if they were rare, but no.
