I know this comes up from time to time, but AI has changed things a bit. You can do a decent DIY one with that.
Mine asked a lot of "what if?"s. WHat's good is that you can get complicated and it sorts out what you mean into a simpler story.
I have a few things going on which might finish me off quite soon so I thought I'd better do something. (Pneumonia, currently!).
So here I am, no kids.
"Family" is brother, his kids and grandkids - I barely know the grandkids as their parents are abroad. It makes no sense to leave money to the brother, he's older than me and it would cop for even more inheritance tax in the passing on. The kids aren't in very stable relationships, so it would make sense to set up trusts, to stop the partners getting dosh if there were a split.
A lot will go in tax (7 figs), but there's still enough to present each grandkid with enough that they'd be able to buy a posh house and never work again. I could split it and leave some to the kids (parents of the grandkids), but they have plenty enough for the lives they lead.
I'm not sure I want to do much of that, because it would overwhelm them. No, I don't have a fave charity.
There are a few friends here and there, but not that close.
I've got just the one house now, but a load of "stuff" and monies in about 9 accounts, (jeez).
It wouldn't be fair to lumber my brother with being executor so I'll have to use a solicitor, who would have to get a house clearer in, etc etc etc.
That would cost 10's of thousands I think. International trusts to set up in two countries... But it's a small %.
What a job - I CBA to do it really. For now, I suppose I'll use AI to write something with a list of names and appoint my bro as executor because it has to be quick.
Has anyone a rellie who's used a solicitor for an estate?
I really should throw all my scrappy socks away and get new ones, but I've got £100 in M&S vouchers somewhere which I can't find.
