Have to agree with the good Dr here.He is absolutely spot on.

I know a WB engineer who does boiler changes every single weekend and I am willing to lay money
that he ain't Corgi registered in his own right.

Might just be me but things are definitely much quieter these last two months.

Yep, it has slowed down here too and yes I have noticed a lot more new heating businesses started up too

Haven't you lot noticed there's a slump on the cards.

House prices are falling rapidly, the building trade is coming to a standstill and there's no money in the high street.

Not only that they say it will take the average punter till June to pay off their credit card for Christmas

Ha Ha Ha... I think that we have all seen it....Time to adopt the crash position...

(3) Without prejudice to the generality of paragraphs (1) and (2) above and subject to paragraph (4) below, no employer shall allow any of his employees to carry out any work in relation to a gas fitting or service pipework and no self-employed person shall carry out any such work, unless the employer or self-employed person, as the case may be, is a member of a class of persons approved for the time being by the Health and Safety Executive for the purposes of this paragraph.

Stupid I know but it applies to any appliance

Spark doesn't have to Corgi registered but he does conform to the above.

Legally he does, read the book.

Anyone who works on any gas appliance as part of their trade must be a member of the Kennel club.

It's not what it was meant to say but it does.

I got undercut by a guy who works in the council offices, till I asked the customer if he was providing an installation cert

Then what you should do is offer cheaper alternative and better value for money. Instead of those ridiculous, expensive, potentially dangerous unvented cylinders, fit a DPS Hi-Flow conversion box to a normal cylinder to give full mains pressure and still use the existing cylinder. At around £275 it has to be a seller.

Sell like hot cakes. No power shower pumps and the likes.

So the local wood Butchers guild would be fine.

He has to be Corgi registered if you read the book.

I know guys who go out on call-outs on spec at all times of the day and night.

What chance do you have?

I know the WB guy gets paid in cash for every job and I doubt he ever notifies his work well he can't if he isn't registered himself.I've heard his work leaves an awful lot to be desired as in teeing a condensate waste into a washing machine drain hose and I use the term 'teeing' loosely.

Not where I am he doesn't chief.

He is a member of SELECT which enables him to carry out the work in any event it is no big deal because my Corgi registration covers him or it will if I have to register him.

There is too much woolly words and over quoting.

It seems to me that the argument is that a gas engineer registered ( for gas ) with CORGI then registers five electricians on his firms tab.

Then he can get all five electricians to fit the gas side of boilers just because they are registered with CORGI ???

It does not seem to ring true even if the words of the law might imply that!

Only if they hold ACS quals will they be allowed to work on the gas side. An electrician does not have to be CORGI registered don't believe all you read from some people on internet forums who never admit they are wrong. An electrician only has to be competent. He has to be a member of a competent persons scheme if the boiler is in a restricted location or has to notify building control to inspect..

We are still waiting gagaman71 where are you a corgi inspector give your inspector number , will be able to have a laugh about you with the real life corgi inspectors i will be playing golf with tomorrow.
If anyone is that worried about losing business and there livleyhood to diy they can`t be that good in the first place. Your name and quality of work should keep you busy.
Job last week i was £500 quid dearer than nearest quote but got job through recommendation as always
When the down turn in economy hits big time what are you going to do when all the site plumbers start tooting for work and under cutting due to how fast they work (leave house like a bomb site though).
If it gets that bad i wonder how many will try and join the anti-christ of BG

Bottom line is all about money.Always is always will be.

Good on you getting the job for the extra £500 but how much was the work for if you don't mind me asking?

I get punters ringing round trying to save a fiver, lol.

I've been self employed for 20 years and whilst I get plenty of returning trade it is never really enough to keep me working without advertising.

There really needs to be a legal challenge or prosecution to end this nonsense of diy gas once and for all and frankly I don't think that is far away ,hopefully.

You can't have read my earlier post or you would know that there has been a successful prosecution.

Read Rhondda Landlord Prosecuted

He was done for breaking both Reg 3(1) and Reg 36(4).

As for the suggestion that Corgi members should be identified in this forum, what a good idea :!: How about it Mods?

I suggested it would be a good idea to have the trade ID under the user name, Last week in an email to admin but to date have not received a reply
