Surge in the use of Tasers is troubling – Diane Abbott
Diane Abbott MP, Labour’s Shadow Home Secretary, responding to Home Office figures that show Police taser use reached a record high last year, said:

“This surge in the use of Tasers is quite troubling especially as non-white people are disproportionately targeted. Of course, the use of reasonable force is a key part of policing. But the government should examine whether this big increase is justified or effective.”

I can't this day and age the police are Tasers people for just walking down the street minding their own business, doing nothing wrong.

Aren't there more tasers issued these days?

The figures were lower when the police did not have them. Abbot might find this difficult to understand.

Maybe people are more aggressive these days due to cannabis use ? Seen videos of people being tasered and it not having much affect.

Fella at the scrap yard this morning puffing his weed. Come in his van.. Puffing as if he's doing nothing wrong..
Car drove past yesterday stunk of weed. What's going on??

Prohibition isn't working.

It's a policy for diverting money into the pockets of organised crime.

I doubt it's dope - dope doesn't really make people aggressive. Coke and booze does, esp if someone's had a skinful of both.

A lot of studies contradict that statement, but then all studies are biased in favour of those paying for them.Smoking weed is more prevalent these days, violence is on the rise.
So is coke. Coke is a massively common drug now and it is far far more aggressive.
Weed on it's own pretty much has a sedative effect and I think most studies show this, with the exception that they now have found a link with people with mental health issues who smoke dope and aggression. I've not seen anyone in my massive dope smoking youth get aggressive, it just made people chill and sleepy (and hungry).

Coke and booze I see every single weekend where I live, I see blokes snort it walking to the pub, in their cars before going to the pub and I know it gets taken in the pub and I see all the dealers. I see the behaviour on it, it's really not pretty, it's nasty.

According to this article, cocaine use has doubled in the UK.

All illicit drugs are nasty, but usually someone doing coke or heroin in your vicinity won't attract you compared to the vile stench of weed. You have to be a severe moron to take drugs.

Each to their own. Dope I do not have a problem with, although it's been many a year since I've had a joint and have no desire to ever again. I've witnessed and still witness less aggression or nasty behaviour on dope than I've seen on people who drink too much. And yet people don't seem to get scared of booze, just because it's legal.

Nah, you don't notice the smell of coke, but you see them sniffing non-stop and a little while later kicking the crap out of each other. That's a bit of a giveaway! :)

Cannabis is getting stronger and stronger, the effects are more pronounced than weed from 10,20,30 years ago, as is the smell. You can go almost anywhere nowadays and smell it.Drug users are morons, but it is their choice, it's only when it impacts on other people that it starts to be an issue.

Maybe if they stopped behaving as if they were still in their own continent and running around stabbing people, they wouldn't need to be stunned. Or maybe they would prefer being shot on sight, good ol' US style.

Or am I stating the bleeding obvious?
