Thr Classic car show.

I do agree that some cars were very distinctive sounding.

The VW air-cooled engines reminded me of a Singer sewing machine!

We had an old beetle for about 6 months, it had the 6v electrics and the wife wouldn't drive it in the dark because the headlamps were so dim, tbf I think it may have had a bit of a knock the the front end making the headlamp aim a little low.
Anyway, at the time we lived in a cul de sac of about 50 houses, and every night when mrs filly pulled into the road, one of our cats would chase up the road, jump onto the bonnet and start pawing the windscreen until mrs filly had parked up.

One day we were stood outside talking to some neighbours when a VW beetle pulled into the road and our cat leapt onto the bonnet and started it's usual routine, the driver was terrified and gently pulled up while mrs filly ran over to rescue the cat.

Metros were creditited with saving BL.
I never had an issue with reliability, be it 1.0 or 1.3 A series or O series or S series or the Perkins Diesel. All did well over 100K.

But the bodywork on all my BL cars failed sooner or later.

Is this your transam transam?

that particular model would have had a 4.9 turbo V8 when it came out of the Norwood factory in Ohio

they were not that good tbh lack of development and were only used for the 1980 / 81 models

it was an attempt to get a small block to go as well as a big block

the car in the pic has a 1974 Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8

6.6 litre
