What are you having for breakfast?

Reminded of Danny Baker's famous "sausage sandwich game", i still go for HP sauce. It brings out the flavour.

Home-grown caramelised tomatoes on toast.

Poached smoked haddock and poached eggs with a little bit of dill that I had left over from last nights dinner.

King Oyster mushrooms on toast. Home grown too!

My daughter bought me a couple of mushroom growing kits and this morning I harvested some King Oysters. Fried in butter and olive oil with garlic, nutmeg and chopped parsley. Bloody lovely - I can honestly say these are the best mushrooms I have tasted - flavour and texture included.

I’ve got these field cap ones just starting to come up so they are next on my list.

Toasted currant teacakes with lots of proper butter.

It made me think again about terminology.

In these parts, a "teacake" is plain. Or if you want to be absolutely sure, you ask for a "plain teacake". If you want a fruited one you need to ask for a "currant teacake".

My friend from Hull calls a plain teacake a "bun". Others call them baps or barms. Snooty southerners seem to call it a roll.
