    Swing / climbing frame brackets

Can anyone recommend a supplier of brackets for round poles suitable for a climbing frame / swing etc. All the ones I've seen so far are really expensive. eg: http://www.blacksheepplay.co.uk/climbing-frame-components-hardware/126-swing-corner-bracket-right-round-100mm-100mm.html...

    Sofabed replacement springs

We have a sofabed which has been stored and the springs which tension the bed base have gone rusty. They're on three sides of the bed base - see image below. I want to replace them. Any idea where I can buy some more? They're very strong, about 75mm long, and I need 34 of them.

    Sealing BSPP fittings

I have a radiator with BSP parallel threads. I want to fit BSP-male to 15mm couplers and use a shaped piece of 15mm pipe to connect to the radiator valves rather than using standard tails. I've bought some straight couplers from Screwfix (item 67110). I expected these to some with rubber or...

New Radiators to old pipes - distance from wall

I need to find two new radiators to fit onto existing pipes which are fixed in a tiled / concrete floor. There's very little pipe movement available - a few mm at most. I don't want to force them to move too much, as damaging them in the floor would be a disaster! One is 35mm from pipe...

    New radiators different size

I want to replace two radiators in our kitchen with a couple of bog-standard replacements, but cannot seem to find the same sizes. Height is fine. The old ones are 1350mm and 1085mm wide. The closest I can seem to buy are 1300 or 1400, 1000 or 1100. If I go for the under-size options, How do...

    Air collecting in one radiator

We have an old fashioned CH setup - heater tank in the loft, not a high pressure or sealed system. For some reason one radiator keeps collecting air. There's no water leaks. Where is the air coming from? Ant

Fitting skirtings - frame fixings? Hammer fixings?

Hi all, I'm refitting old skirtings after having the walls re-skimmed. Its plaster on blockwork all the way around - no dry lining or plasterboards. I don't fancy glueing them because the walls aren't perfectly straight and the plaster at the bottom of the wall may be a bit clumbly. The...

Copper tails on a monobloc kitchen tap

I have an old kitchen tap (~1980s at a guess) which I want to reuse on a sink in my garage. It is a single hole mixer tap and has two copper tail pipes on it. One of the pipes is very loose and I doubt it will be water tight. It turns freely about 1/2 a turn or so but then becomes stiff...

    Cutting a wooden bath panel

Following on from my recent post about how to fit a panel - next question: What do I cut it with? It's 18mm thick, "wood effect". Chipboard inside (I guess - the vanity unit was) and plastic veneer type coating. Options I have available to me: 1) Circular saw - but I suspect it'll be a...

    Alarm system PIR recommendations

We have an optima based wired alarm, fitted by myself just over 2 years ago. The controllers, door sensors, phone dialer and siren are all fine. The PIRs are giving me major grief with false alarms. We go months without a problem, then a sunny day arrives and we get another false alarm...

Bath panel - in a tight gap

Hi all, Having trouble fitting a bath panel. IT's wooden, and ideally I want to put it under the lip of the bath. Trouble is the vanity unit is too close so I can't get a steep enough angle to lean it and tuck it up under the bath. I have considered fitting it outside of the lip of the...

I want to use BAL Arcybase to level out our bathroom floor. It's fairly flat to start with, and the Arcybase will be 2mm to 4mm in thickness. There two or three different areas where old adhesive has been removed, where the bath used to be, and where the concrete has been damaged over the...
