This gets to the nub of the matter I think. One gives sympathy to the woman who loses a wanted child, but then goes on to say that an unwanted child can be killed. This is a claim that a child only matters if it is wanted (convenient?). Consider applying that logic to the old, the sick, the vulnerable. (Or any other unfashionable group?)

A child needs assistance to survive both within the womb, and outside the womb for a considerable period after birth. Using a "the ability to survive outside the womb" unaided as a criterion would allow what is euphemistically called 'post birth abortion'. Now normal caring for an infant does not require 'special medical apparatus' but it does require special and constant attention.

Up to 21 weeks no foetus has ever survived no matter how much help is given. Between there and 24 weeks it's still very unlikely and most babies born that prematurely die. Of the small number that live most have significant permanent damage as a result of being born so early.

This is another wonderful result of the move to make abortion illegal. Now a miscarriage may result in criminal charges for murder. It happens in some third world countries at the moment.
