Hi people, i have signed up because i have a query. I have just started on a site doing domestic pricework, and was wondering what way do different sparkies do their 2nd fixing as i am not very quick at the minute and am not sure of which system to go for, any help would be great. Would anyone also say it is possible to do a 3 storey 2nd fix in 6 hours. I know its a bit vague but if you have any questions i will keep checking in,,,,,thanks in advance

Impossible to say. what are you installing:
12v downlights in a room take much more time than a pendant for example.
Do you have fans, fan isolators, PIR lights, lots of stuff in the kitchen, sub main and circuits in the garage?

By second fix do you mean just wiring the accessories or does it include testing?

Hi no downlighters, just pendants, and no garage, no test, there were 23 d/sockets, 6 unsw singles, 13 pendants, 22 lights sw, 4 fans + isolators, 3 smokes, 7 spurs, 4 tv, 4 bt, 4 shaver, 7 way board, No test.and a few other bits and bobs. To be honest it took me 2 days, cheers

that is a fair bit mate.dont rush to much you may make a mistake that costs you a bit of time to sort out

The time price work takes is relative to the price. Are you saying you need to complete the work in 6 hours to earn basic money or good money?

TTC, I think that's the case because quite often the main electrical contractor will sub the 1st fix as one price and the 2nd fix as another so quite often differant subies will complete the install. The main contrator just manages and tests.

97 connections in 6hrs ? yeah I`d give you as many of those contracts as you can handle - okay 2 days is slow but 6hrs, nope

97 connections in 2 days ( 16 hrs ) is about 1 every 10 mins..
given time to move from one to the other, lunch, tea breaks etc you did very well to do it in 2 days..

Not the only one, mate.

I just got back in from a job I started at 0800 this morning: two cups of tea all day... oh, and I had a banana for breakfast!

(Wouldn't mind so much if I was actually getting paid for it, but it's one of those 'mates rates' jobs that's turned into a bleedin' nightmare; "We've changed our minds about this.. that... and every other thing...")

(Actually, correction, it's the last job I'm ever doing at mates rates!)

unless the mate is equally qualified in a field that you are not and that you have need of ( or might have need of at some point... ) then they get charged full rate..

say he's a painter and decorator, and the missus wants the lounge done, then you do it at mates rates, on the clear understanding that you expect the favour returned in kind when the missus is finished picking out the colour scheme..
