Bathroom Light Help Please

I have bought a bathroom light from Costco. As per photo it shows 3 wires to connect to.

I have opened up the light fitting that's on the bathroom ceiling now, and I am presented with lots of wires, as per photo: 3 red, 3 black, 1 blue and 1 brown and an earth behind.

Is it possible to use the new light I bought or is it a no go.

Lastly, yes I know I should use an electrician and I probably will IF it's too complicated, but I do get a sense of achievement when I do my own DIY. I am methodical and of course take my time ensuring I am safe.

Any advice welcome.

Yes its possible

Make the small hole a bit bigger, 20mm cutter maybe

Put the 2 blacks to neutral

Put the single black to live (mark this wire red or brown don't lose it or you'll be in a bit of bother)

Put the 3 reds in a separate connector block (not connected to the light)

And put the earths to earth.

Assuming the cover will fit with the connections etc inside the fitting.

And make sure the power is OFF before doing anything.

The three reds in the middle will go in their own terminal block.

The two blacks on the left (N) will connect to the blue wire on the new light.

The black on the right will connect to the brown wire on the new light.

I think I do see an earth wire, that will connect to the earth terminal on the new light. If the original wiring has no earth wire then you can't use that light.

And the light should be IP rated.

And just to note to the OP, when choosing a connector block to join the loop wires it should be rated correctly, I've seen some toasty burnt terminal blocks.

Can you please tell me which block I need. Is it the big chunky connecting block. If so I have these.

Can I just say, I'm not being critical because I've made the same error in instructions before.

But I would always advise turning off the power before touching anything first in the list, not last.

I once did some teacher training and as part of that, I handed out an exam paper with a list of things for the "students" (other trainee teachers) to do.

Some of them finished very quickly and the others could not understand why.

At the top of the exam paper was the statement:

"Please write you name and today's date on the next line and read the full sheet before starting the exam."

There followed 15 numbered lines of text.
Number 15 was:

"Make sure you have done what was asked of you at the top of this piece of paper. Then get up and hand it to the invigilator. You have finished the examination."

When you say one connector block, do you mean one single connecting block from the strip ie all three wires go in one hole and are screwed down. Also should I wrap red insulation tape around the block?

I have bought the connecting blocks you have suggested. I will be putting up the light this week.
