Brexit Negotiations proceeding, er...... well...... er....

In the meantime, the Japanese Ambassador to the UK says that the Japan-EU trade deal is still a long way off and he can envisage a deal between Japan and the UK happening first..

do you think it will be a treaty between equals?

Or between a dominant partner and a supplicant?

Jeez they negotiated with the EU for 8 years & got no where :)

The US delegation lost the will to live talking to the EU delegation 8 kin years and nothing
Do you ever wonder why it took so long to achieve nothing?

The Japanese / eu deal took 4 years & it has not been fully concluded :) so another couple of years may sort it

Oh, ok.

Who will be paying the UK negotiators salaries?
You an i, naturally... But there are fewer losses between our pockets and the UK negotiators pockets than there are between us and the EU negotiators..

Correct. There is an average time taken to negotiate AND ratify trade deals. The UK is not unique. The UK is not in a strong negotiating position either and a lot of countries will be sniffing this.

The UK has hardly any competent and experienced trade negotiators, and those we have are going to be fully occupied trying to sort out the Brexit disaster for the remainder of their working lives.

US trade negotiators (who are mostly recruited from the industries that will be doing the trading, so they can insist on whatever suits them best) are not used to actual negotiations. They are so big and powerful that they expect the other side to roll over and give in.

"Our usual approach is to fax them our terms and tell them to sign"

How do you think UK Agribusiness will cope if we have free trade for the US to flood us with hormone-enhanced factory milk, and cheap meat produced in inhumane conditions from growth-hormone-treated animals?

Don't we just sell our stuff to them?
