Changing energy suppliers

Just for clarity, do you agree that the 'system' is nothing to do with Brexit or the Conservative Party
The system in regard to energy, is a result of Conservative privatisation.

I used to get my gas from the gas board and electricity from the electricity board…..

Harsh. I'm out at work all day. If I have to faff about, even for an hour, it can cost me more than I'll ever save.
out at work but finds the time to post in here all day

so you preferred to pay whatever price a monopoly charged rather than have competition to drive down prices which is why the market was opened up after privatisation

What cobblers! I don’t know you or what you do in your spare time but I can guarantee you one thing it’ll take less time for you to search out better utility deals that will last you a year than you spend every day on this forum! Give up posting on here for one day and that will be more than enough time to sort out your gas, electric, car insurance, home insurance, travel insurance, mobile and broadband contracts.

It’s called 'competition'. Tell me, when you buy a new telly, fridge, vacuum cleaner, holiday etc etc, do you just walk into any shop and buy it, in the belief that it is the same price everywhere else?

…and you paid the price that they decided. Of course, they could charge what they liked as there were no alternatives, were there?

It’s called 'competition'
No it isnt

Its called making the pricing as opaque as possible

I don’t call penalising loyal customers “competition”

…and you paid the price that they decided. Of course, they could charge what they liked as there were no alternatives, were there?
Yes it’s terrible how the nationalised energy supplier in France put up prices by 4% …..it’s awful the way customers had no choice

Luckily in the U.K. we had loads of choice when energy prices went up 80%

And if the privatised energy supplier market is so great how come 80% of them just went bust?

And who actually subsidised the real price increase at the time , oh yeah the french taxpayers so they actually did pay the full whack in one way or another.
.
.
The Finance Ministry said that during the period of subsidies, the government had covered 37 percent of country's electricity bill, amounting to €9 billion per year.

Being pedantic No you didnt the gasboards ceased to exist in 1973 you got it from british gas then possibly centrica
Thank you for agreeing my point stands.

I don’t energy suddenly increasing by so much that millions of people couldn’t afford heating.

But then our energy and supply network wasn’t owned by sovereign wealth funds

How much did their taxes increase by?

How much was the real increase? - it wasn’t that much.

How did it work in the U.K.? - oh that’s right the govt gave billions to energy suppliers that ended up in the hands of …private owned energy companies.

6 million people now living in fuel poverty.

You right wing numpties have got zero chance of winning the argument on privatisation of utilities. Zero.

.Interviewed by Franceinfo on Monday, he said this increase "could have been shifted to a more opportune time", such as in August or after the winter season, adding that 34 percent of the French population go without heating because they can't afford it.

Peanuts compared to privatised Britain, where Truss paid out £150b

You won’t be able to win the privatisation argument for utilities, it’s best you give up now
