It looks like this is a deliberate attempt the the govt to get into a conflict with the ECHR, which will be the excuse they're looking for to leave it. Which may be a good thing.

Cue the predictable tedious comments along the lines of "don't you want human rights?". Plenty of decent countries are not members, not being a member doesn't mean not having human rights. Also being a member doesn't seem to guarantee much either - protests have been almost banned recently in the UK without a squeak from them. They appear to have disdain for the country's own inhabitants and only enforce lefty idealist borderless world policies.

It may also run us into problems with the UN. Which would be a good opportunity to revise their rulings too, I'm sure lots of other countries would agree that their policies from the 1950s, before seagoing dinghies were even invented, are massively overdue for updating.
