In the Midlands at least, police are at last clamping down on those illegal e-bikes, doing absolutely stupid mph, often on the footpaths of busy centres. I had a bit of an altercation with one, a week or two back, but we don't see many around here.
,
I was on my mobility scooter, on the road, making a right turn into my own street, indicator on, in the middle of the road, delayed by an oncoming car, with a car behind me, also turning right. Idiot on one of these, illegally carrying a passenger, came steaming past, on my right, and car behind me's right, just as I was turning. I was lucky to spot him, and managed to avoid him.

They do look fun, it must be difficult not to go fast on them given the design. Our highways infrastructure isn’t really designed for them.

Good job you did a shoulder check before turning. It's 50/50 liability if you collide with someone in this situation. (turning right without checking you are being passed 50% and passing a vehicle intending to turn 50%)
But a decent lawyer would get that to a higher amount against the e-bike rider. Doesn't do either of you any good if you have no insurance.

Only a total fool, would attempt to overtake two vehicles obviously waiting to make a right-turn, with indicators on, so I would dispute the 50/50.

They are not normal off the shelf bikes - they fit illegal higher wattage motors capable of 40mph and easily over 30mph when they should be limited to 15 or 20mph

you'd loose - there are decided cases. Joliffe v Hay 1991 (70% on the overtaking vehicle / 30% on the vehicle turning)

You are meant to look before turning and they are not meant to overtake you when you are adjacent to a side road.

You see young idiots flying around here on scrambler type bikes and these e-bikes. I'm sure, where the law requires, they are all registered, licensed etc ;)

I saw someone going along a street yesterday (quite a busy area) with a youngster on the back without a helmet. The rate the thing was going, I wouldn't fancy his chances if he came off.

And of course, if a driver was to hit them, cue the uproar from the 'parents.'
