This is an infrared spectrum from a satellite which has been annotated (by a scientist, not me!) to show the amount of heat absorbed by CO2 in the atmosphere. Basically, the orange line is what it would look like without any greenhouse gases:

The graph is so tall because it's trying to lay 22,000 years out in a linear fashion. The vertical middle is 0 degrees. This is not actual 0as in "the temperature of the world is zero" this is 0 as in the change in temperature over time, so where you see the graph line move over the course of eg 5000 years from -4 to -3, that means the Earth got 1 degree warmer on average over those years

We've been polluting since the industrial revolution and at best, the earth temperature has risen by a fraction of a degree, although many dispute the way temperatures are taken. (Think about deliberate roadwork to create traffic and place pollution sensors at the same location, same dodgy tactics)
