I'm looking to buy a 395 watch battery so my girlfriend went to the jewellers and they said they need the watch as there is different types of 395 batteries but is this true.

i suspect a sales con
open watch replace battery charge £5
buy a battery on line about £1.50 delivered

I paid £25 to have one fitted to my Tag. Probably the same £1.50 battery.

They wouldn't give her a price just for the battery but they did say if you buy a battery from them they would fit it for free. She went to another jewellers and they wanted £6 for a battery with or without fitting.

I suspect they asked to see the watch because they know most people aren't competent enough to take out the battery themselves.

Most watches have a simple press in back, and you just need a slim sharp knife to prize it off with. Once off, check the orientation of the battery, carefully lift it out of it's compartment, and insert the new battery. As empip and mattylad have shown you can get the equivalencies of any batteries on line, and then order them if they aren't in the Poundland packs.

But I don't think I'd tackle a Tag until I'd watched them do it at least once.

What about water resistance?
IMHO, not worth screwing hundreds / thousands of pounds of watch, to save a tenner or two.

That's why the back of the watch is such a tight fit, and that's why I wouldn't tough a Tag until I've seen it done. I've only come across one wathc so far that had a screwed on back though, and that needed a fitting to unscrew it; and mu current cassio is water resistant to 25M, and that has 4 screws n the back.
