i have a fire plugged into single socket at back of fire
and the switch at side of fire .
but i want to add a double socket from the single to outside wall
is this possible

If the switch at the side of the fire is a fused connection unit, then yes, you could add a second socket outside, tapped off the one behind the fire.

But you'd have to switch that switch on (and consequently the fire) to use it.

Better to tap off the feed at the fused connection unit, but you can't do that if the connection unit is already a spur off the ring final.

you might have the option of adding another switch before the fire - fused or unfused - but then that starts to get a bit unwieldy so probably best avoided.

Yes, it may be possible, but you should not plug a double socket into a fixed heater/fire outlet unless it's designed for that purpose. Electric fires can draw a lot of power, so adding sockets could overload the circuit.
