There is. Last year we were limiting social contact, taking precautions and generally being careful before the Alpha variant (remember that?) arrived.

This year we've got Delta and very little controlling measures in place so the number of cases is massively higher. It's now almost as prevalent as it has ever been but only around 150 a day are dying rather than 2,000 odd.
