Fraudster sentenced to jail

They carry on regardless of how blatantly obvious their methods are.
They are like a cornered animal desperately lashing out.

A very good BBC article saying this was legally the correct sentence under a tough recent law. But that politicians of all parties were not expecting the judge to have the balls to apply the correct sentence. Also, it argues it will increase the RN popularity, at least in the short term.

But they were all wrong. The judge said that the law was the law.

The law had in fact recently been toughened – by the very politicians who were now complaining about its application – to make the penalty for misuse of public funds very severe indeed. Well, said the judge in so many words, now let politicians suck up their own medicine.

The people will see right through this and make the right wing even stronger than it already was.

All that they have done today is to make a Martyr out of her and because she stood as the anti corruption party, the far right will now win the day.

Turns out Le Pen is not mightier than Le Fraud

You'd have thought they might take heed when the same tactics were used against Trump, and only proved to bolster his support.
Who do you mean when you say 'they' might take heed? Are you talking about Le Pen or those that uphold the law?
