From Drive to Neutral at lights?

Latest Highway Code still says put your handbrake on at traffic lights to avoid dazzling drivers behind. Sitting with your brakelights on is lazy and inconsiderate.

Yes, but for your own protection - you are still best keeping those brakes and the brake lights on, until the vehicle behind has successfully stopped behind you.

The vast majority of drivers are lazy, inconsiderate and incompetent.

Indeed, but most drivers keep them on all the time they are stationary and are oblivious to what is going on behind them. The latter when not stationary too.

Many automatics have separate foot operated handbrake and hand release making use in traffic very difficult. From hand brake off to neutral to drive you still need brakes on, so unavoidable.

Been driving 45year, have never been found brake lights dazzling.?

They do certainly detract from your ability to see past a vehicle which is shining up to 40+ watts directly in your eyes and on a dark road can wreck your night vision for several minutes.
