Sorry about that ... you might notice I refer to ree vinn and bobasd - look @ some of their posts . That's "ted456" previously ,before the mods banned him . All the time he argues and thinks he knows it all. Ignore his rantings and go with the EWI guys and the others here.
Thanks, seems like I don't really need to hack off all the render below the bell cast
One other question, I grinded the garden wall and chipped it back flush. But there are bricks below ground level still tied into the wall of the house. Should I keep digging down and try and grind these off and get rid of them too? (See photo) I was worried about these bricks moving damp into the house wall, but also don't want to mess with the foundations!
OP,
Chip out a little mortar from each bed and you will find any DPC if one exists in the wall.
Work from low to high - how low i dont know because i cant see where the render stops.
The external wall insulation people said that it's not a bad idea to get off the really loose render but there is no need to get it all off if its stuck remotely well, as they mechanically fix the EWI and with adhesive.
They mechanically fix into the brick work and also use adhesive to fix it everywhere. So they said a few patches of blown render won't matter, it will all be pinned to the wall essentially. They said if render is just falling off they will obviously take it off. But theres no point chipping away for hours
