I will admit to not reading all the comments, I will go back and do so.
But at first glance, I am left wondering how long before the recent fire in London is blamed on the immigrants.
Farage and Nutall are missing a trick. Normally their reliable response is to blame the immigrants.

Already, The Conservative mumsnet rep on Question Time seemed to be getting close to that before DDimbleby shut her up!

"High Rise Fire"

(not "moaning landlords")

So regardless of materials used outside, why did a 24 story building not have a proper Fire Alarm system when the LA impose a proper wired up fire alarm with a control panel on 3 story HMOs, which are a lot smaller than high rise blocks? So why force private landlords of HMO to install a BS approved fire alarms and yet their own housing stock appears to have lacked one?

will you be happy to rent it to 12 cats, they would be very pleased with this especially when they can have rats for meal! and damp does not bother them.

As a matter of fact, I know lots of Romanian people who would be over the moon to have a place like that, believe me! If they are happy to live in tents underneath flyovers, this would be a luxury!
Ah, aah, we are nearly there!

Why not just knock 'em all down, and build traditional bungalows and houses instead?
I would not disagree.
I think there has been mentioned a couple of relevant figures:
about 127 families lived in Grenfell Tower. Lets settle on 125 as a round figure.
4,000 high rise blocks in Gt Britain, not including NI.
So about 500,000 families.

We cannot build enough, or fast enough for current needs, disregarding an additional 500,000!

But if it is political will, I would vote for it, I am sure everyone else would also, until NIMBY kicks in.

"Fire Risks From External Cladding Panels – A Perspective From The UK..."
Winter 2016.
http://www.probyn-miers.com/perspec...rnal-cladding-panels-perspective-from-the-uk/

"...New Year’s Eve celebrations in Dubai were marred by the fire in The Address Downtown Hotel and residential building, opposite the Burj Khalifa, the world’s highest skyscraper. The exterior of the supertall (302m) The Address was consumed in flames and thick black smoke, with more than 40 storeys burning simultaneously at one stage. Investigations are in hand, but the fire in Dubai’s 18th tallest tower appears to be similar to the fires in the external cladding of the 352m Marina Torch residence (21 February 2015) and of the Tamweel Tower (18 November 2012). Fire spread in external cladding has been the primary issue not only in these three major Dubai fires, but in others in the Middle East and China.

It is widely suspected that the presence of combustible aluminium composite panels was responsible for the fire spreading alarmingly rapidly up the exterior of The Address. Composite panels are made of a thin outer metal skin of steel or aluminium and cores of insulating material, which historically have included combustible materials such as expanded polystyrene (EPS) or polyurethane (PUR), but the Dubai fires involved polyethylene (LDPE) cores.

To date there has not been a fatality of a building occupant in the UK associated with composite panels, [1] although 2 firefighters have died. Neither has there been any fatality in the major cladding fires in Dubai. Up to now the occupants have had time to escape, albeit with firefighter assistance in several instances, and escape procedures appear to have operated successfully. This should not be any cause for complacency. All of the major fires have had the potential for loss of life..."

George Monbiot, yesterday, said "...we’ve seen what ‘ripping up red tape’ really looks like..." I wonder if he is correct.

You don't like it. Stop grumbling and find something else to do with your money.

You are an absolute bellend. You know NOTHING about being a landlord, and you shouldn't be commenting here with your little socialist agenda, as per usual. Get out the thread.

The rooms in HMOs are not self contaimed units with 30 minute fire containment between units. Hence residents need to be made aware when there is a fire that is likely to spread to their room(s) before the fire brigade arrive. The number of people involved in a panic driven un-managed evacution is small enough that serious injury caused by the evacuation is unlikely

Flats in high rise buildings were built with 30 minute containment around each flat. This alllows for a fire in one flats to be contained and prevented from spreading to other flats until the fire brigade arrive to control the fire and manage a controlled evacuation of other flats if that evacuation is necessary. The number of people involved in a panic driven unmanaged evacuation presents very high risk of injury during the evacuation.

The Grenfell tower was almost certainly "safe" before the cladding was added. It is likely that there would have been fires in flats in Grenfell Tower in the past, these would have been contained inside the flat involved and extinguished by the fire brigade before the containment failed. The cladding was not part of the original design and it is obvious that fitting it meant there was no longer effective containment.

Hawk thinks he has the right to hijack a thread on a public forum for his own moaning agenda then throw his dummy out when this is pointed out. Talk about witless.

Thread Title: High rise fire.
You need to go have a lie down boyo.
