Trump considers himself entitled to grant FDA approval to his buddies

Despite his absence of scientific qualification.

Not really surprising, since he also considers himself to be the Messiah.

In other news, under Trump's lenient regime, lawyers whose practice makes their money out of defending high-value fraud and white-collar crime are in a downturn of business

Because Trump's buddies aren't being investigated or prosecuted.

“You wanna hear the biggest lie people here are going to tell you?” a top criminal defence lawyer asks at a party filled with people who represent alleged fraudsters for a living. “It’s that they’re busy.”

Over the next two days, at an annual conference for America’s white-collar defence bar, the gallows humour continues. Lawyers repeatedly crack jokes about needing to retrain or having nothing to do.

Some others do indeed say they are busy.

The Trump administration’s approach to justice has left many of them with the impression that, at least when it comes to the traditional white-collar enforcement they have spent their careers dealing with, there were “no cops on the beat right now”, one attendee said.

Though case numbers have been falling since the aftermath of the financial crisis, there were fewer white-collar prosecutions in 2025 than in any year since at least 1986, according to data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse."

"While that might be good news for some of the alleged fraudsters they represent, it is bad news for the lawyers.

The industry’s top partners can bill more than $2,000 per hour. Legal bills for the defence of Charlie Javice and a co-defendant, who were convicted of defrauding JPMorgan Chase when they sold their start-up to the bank, exceeded $100mn, costs that JPMorgan said were “abusive”.

“In the short term, I think all of us should be developing in other practice areas,” joked Baruch Weiss, a white-collar trial lawyer at Arnold & Porter and a former federal prosecutor, during a discussion at the conference, hosted by the American Bar Association."

Hasn't stopped RFKjr. getting on with business, has it?

Not really surprising, since he also considers himself to be the Messiah.

He is the Devil: his greatest trick is convincing evangelicals to go along with his hateful, destructive policies.

Aspiring pot companies had big dreams for Florida. Reality has hit hard.

While trump gets all warm n' fuzzy about the potential of using psychadelics in treating ptsd, an initiative seeking to permit recreational pot in Florida have brought tighter restrictions by Gov. Ron DeSantis, and little federal headway in Washington...even as the number of patients is over 900,000 patients now — the state’s application process was delayed by litigation challenging key components of the actual process in the state Supreme Court in 2021.

The Office of Medical Marijuana Use began taking applications for the licenses in 2023 as Trulieve had just begun pouring roughly $150 million into a recreational use campaign. At the same time, state lawmakers were poised to crack down on raw hemp that had been synthesized in a lab to become THC, only without the hundreds of dollars in doctor’s bills and annual program fees medical marijuana patients are required to spend. Trulieve’s recreational campaign has been put on ice until at least 2028 after it failed to make this year’s ballot. And efforts by state lawmakers to pass basic regulations on hemp products meant to compete with medical marijuana have died amid immense pressure from the hemp industry.

Dr Albert Hofmann accidentally discovered the hallucinatory effects of LSD in April 1943. In 1986, he told the BBC about a "terrifying" bicycle ride home from the laboratory – and about how his "problem child" drug changed the world.

"At the end of the synthesis, I got in a very strange psychic situation. A kind of dream world appeared, a feeling of oneness with the world."

Strange, then, that the British Army once considered administering the drug to soldiers in the hope of making them more aggressive. You can see the effects of this misadventure in the Record of the Moneybags Trial when volunteer subjects from 41 Royal Marine Commando engaged in a field exercise after imbibing the hallucinogen at Porton, 27 November - 4 December 1964.

Stop posting absolute nonsense. Most people are trying to get shut of illegal drugs and encouraging their kids to stay away from them. Not trying to legalise it.

In connection with the 'Movie Music' thread, on the subject of films that Pink Floyd did the music to: the film 'More' is the best of them. It is a cautionary tale - somebody in it dies from taking illegal drugs.

Stop posting absolute nonsense. Most people are trying to get shut of illegal drugs and encouraging their kids to stay away from them. Not trying to legalise it.

But some folk see the true potential and campaign to make the world aware of that:

From the article: Hofmann said that his unexpected first experience with the drug reminded him of "mystical" childhood moments in woods and forests. The sensation of "seeing the true aspects of nature, the beauty" filled him with happiness.

I found his statement and the fact of the British Army holding trials to see the effects of the drug on soldiers combat effectiveness interesting. I doubt you watched the film - i saw it many moons ago - but the ending stated "more trials were required to see how far they could go" - obviously they didn't go much further after the Hippie days of the 60s showed the real benefits of LSD...when taken in a correct dosage.

You should read 'The Doors of Perception' sometime; it'll open your eyes - and your mind.
