Ideal Response 120 combi boiler

Hi Everyone,

I have recently had a drip from my boiler and have tried to tighten the joint in question where a pipe joins to some sort of black plastic part.
Anyway, the drip hasn't stopped and now the boiler doesn't fire up when hot water is required. Only when we turn the thermostat up can you hear it ignite for the heating which is obviously not required at the moment.

I don't really want to tackle anything myself. I thought I could tighten the part above and solve the problem. So I would just like an idea of what I am dealing with if we have to call in a boiler man.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you are describing the hot water flow switch connection.

That black plastic part senses the flow of water when you run a hot tap.

You may have damaged it wilst trying to tighten the joint.

Was it the blue bit you tightened?

Shouldn't have damaged anything but those switches are odd.
Took one out, tested out fine and the same as the new one. Thought it might have been dirt so I put it back. Intermittent.. New one worked fine.

If there's an easy way to get new ones in, I haven't found it. Had to take lots of the boiler apart on the last one. They vary I think - pic shows it installed at an angle but I remember it horizontal.

They dont often leak but presumably its become damaged and will therefore have to be replaced. Probable cost about £30.

They are a little tricky to get in and out as there is little space to manipulate your tools.

We would charge £84 plus the part to include a service in the London area.

A more common part to leak is the pressure switch on the bottom right hand side.

It seems we undercharged then!

It sounds as if Ideal have doubled their prices just like Baxi did after they bought Potty!

That was a switch we had in stock ! I am pretty sure it was more like £30 when we bought it say 2-3 years ago and we used it about a year ago.

The engineer who did the job phoned to say he could not fit it. Since I have changed one myself I told him that it was possible! He managed it shortly afterwards and called me 10 minutes later!

Has it had the additional flue overheat stat kit fitted yet if not phone makers asap because flue baffles have being corroded on these boilers causing flue gasses to melt flue elbow etc

That stat is not user or auto resetting and the owner has to call an engineer if it tripps!

So far I have not been called to any tripped ones!

That stat once tripped is not resettable at all it means a new heat exchanger (better still a new boiler)
