When was that?!?!It’s not just immigrants from South Asia who have problems with English. When I lived in an area with a large post war Italian population many of the women who came over never learnt English because traditional roles meant they stayed at home and within their communities. You could spot them because they would cover their hair out of modesty. Too much hating going on here.
60 or 70 years ago?
Italian women stopped covering their head in the late 50s.
In same remote areas in the south, this custom remained until the early 70s.
By then, only very old widows would cover their head and only when going to church.
Of course there was the odd one who would do so always when out of the house, but very rare since the 70s.
