Immigration at a record level...

That’s one of the reasons I voted for Brexit to stop the poor treatment of those that come to work here. Up until just now, you are the only 'remainer' that’s slipped up and admitted it. Thanks. (y)
The reason Remainers support unlimited immigration could be because they benefit most from it.
I remember a leading Remainer, a celebrity / journalist type of chap.
He was always banging on about the EU and extolling the virtues of freedom of movement.
Turned out he had Romanians living in his garage to cut his grass and clean his windows.

As with almost every other thread in which it's raised, this is bugger all to do with Brexit.

If we'd been in the EU then foreign students would still have worked out this scam. Time goes on, new loopholes are found and taken advantage of, then they get closed. We'd have had this happening, small boats arriving AND unrestricted legal immigration from the EU. It would probably have been even worse.

We just need a government that actually wants to stop it happening, instead of playing silly games of pretending they care while willfully allowing it to continue.
Not a lot of point in pointing this out to the likes of ellal and co. They are actually part of the problem especially those that said they were going then didn't.

The foreign students would have been filling some of the jobs Brits don't want to do.
These are not university students. Postgraduates are those that have completed their studies and probably now working in British industry.
Why wouldn't we allow them to settle? We already have a labour shortage and a skills shortage. All we'll achieve is losing more of our workforce, just to appease people who think there are too many foreigners.
Exactly. Those are the ones we WANT to keep here. We're quick to complain when they take the skills they learned here back to their home countries, for the home country's benefit.

They just expect it to be controlled and lawful.
The truth is immigration, lawful and unlawful can't be controlled.
Immigration control is a global problem, while the EU exists in its present form the dinghies will keep coming.
Record immigration figures show that Britain caught up in a Ponzi scheme.
The more migrants arrive, the more demand on services, the more immigrants required to service those demands.
Demographically, the indigenous population are not producing enough wee ones to pay tax and insurance to support the aging population.
This demographic imbalance creates a vacuum which sucks in ever increasing numbers of migrants to cover the shortfall.

WHAT A LOAD OF SHÍT

While there is a 22-mile stretch of relatively calm water, the dinghies will keep coming.

Regardless of who or what is on the other side of it. (y)

"Foreign postgraduate students on non-research courses will no longer be able to bring family members to the UK"

These are not university students. Postgraduates are those that have completed their studies and probably now working in British industry.
What about MEng degrees, or any taught MSci course, or any arts degrees? Or the lucrative business courses that universities use to print money.

Postgraduate is short for postgraduate students. They're still students. Otherwise they're just graduates after they finish university and go to work somewhere.

The rules seem to say that if you're doing a PhD or a research based masters of some sort you're fine, but if it's a taught course you're stuffed.

Ah, Migrant Season once again.
Time for the Tory Graff Legions to dust off their muskets and defend our Scepter'd Isle set in a Silver Sea from the dratted foreigners invading our shores. Call for Cap'n Main Waring, say i!
