Joint box or loop in lighting

Iam about to start a rewire and I normaly use a joint box to wire the lights. A friend has told me he thinks a joint box is not permitted under the new 17th edition and I will have to use loop in system. Can anybody confirm this or is using a joint box still ok.
 
Joint boxes are still permitted if they are accessible.
Make sure they are big enough though...

Unless you take a 3core there, it's no good if you need a permanent live at the ceiling position...

Do you not see a bit of a discrepancy between (with some paraphrasing)

"I am about to start a rewire"

and

"I don't know about the Wiring Regulations"

?
