why?
I remember seeing 'live' TV pictures as a young sprog then reading a book called 'No Bugles No Drums' (Charles Durden) and becoming interested in the war.

You make an interesting point Stephen, but I fully accept that Labour didn't cause the banking crash, nor would the Conservatives have by lightening the regulation even further. It was Labours overspending that meant we didn't have the reserves to handle the ensuing problems. Banks weren't capitalised sufficiently, and I don't think that Conservtives advocated loosening that aspect, they wanted more mortgage lending to stimulate the housing market, which pushed up house prices. Like labour they were to stupid too realise that more houses needed building, not growth in the house prices, but higher house prices brought in more stamp duty, and that's what they were both aiming for.

It's not what happens on a governments watch that is critical, (as Noesall tries to claim) it's not having a robust system in place to compe with any problems that come along that was the issue. Remember Browns continuing mantra of the end of boom and bust, and yet that's what he presided over, and I think a little, what he helped cause.

what has that got to do with the amount of seats labour has & who lost the election.
The Tories lost more than they gained during the last election. Pitiful campaign and a (so far) horrendous first few months. When is the train crash ever going to stop?

Poor old Tories.

I don't think any of the competing parties begrudge her the position she is in now. I don't know of any recently elected party to be in such a low position. Poor old Tories.
Well then, in the words of the butcher of Baghdad and well known war criminal....The only way is up, Baby

I don't understand why people who do not support the Labour party complain that it is in a mess if, indeed, it is. Surely they should be happy it is that way.

Much as I am happy the Conservatives, due to their two misplaced voting exercises, are in a worse position than they were and a bit of a shambles - but I am not going to complain about it - apart from the detrimental effect for the country.

The Labour party was formed by the unions as a socialist party and a few people at the general election apparently liked the socialist policies.
Everyone seems to like the NHS but they wouldn't have it if not for the Labour Party.

That Blair turned it into a new nearly conservative party and would have done anything to win is not exactly principled.
I'll say and do anything you want me to if you vote for me is hardly the best policy.

To be fair, the NHS was actually imagined by William Beveridge who was a Liberal. So saying it exists and stays in existence because of the Labour Party isn't factually correct. They're not the sole reason and don't have ownership of it.

Maybe, but the Tories would not have introduced it and the Liberals did not become the Government.

The Tories would love to get rid of it - but dare not - so they will try to do something else with the same effect.

Ergo ...

I'm not sure everyone within the Tory party can be trusted with it, but I'm not sure i'd agree with them wanting to get rid of it. Got some good friends and family who love the NHS and vote Tory. That problem seems like a contradiction in terms to many ;) but, the point remains. Think it's wrong for Labour to claim ownership of the institution. But, maybe only the left will protect it in its current form...

remember it's the Con government that made Jeremy Hunt into the Health Secretary.
