does anyone remotely like this deeply annoying thing that seems to be on all new cars now ? have to switch it off every time you start engine

Is it working in cahoots with the pot holes ?, try to move away from the pot hole and the stupid lane assist tries to force yo back into it

What a horrible thing to become mandory on (all?) new cars and vans

Usual story, something totally unnecessary for a shrinking band that actually know how to drive, becomes a must-have item for poor souls that really need self-driving cars.

Probably a useful feature in America, with its long straight sections of inter-state highway, so that the drivers can take a nap :giggle::giggle:.
My car has it, but there's a switch 'conveniently' located just near a knee position, such that it can accidentally get enabled when the driver enters the car. It gets really annoyed by all the white lines in a Tesco car park!

I have lane assist......there are 4 stabilisers on my car...

We have it on our car. We also have a constant 'bong' and our speed flashes on the dash and on the HUD when we exceed the speed limit for the road we are on. I like the lane assist on motorways, combined with the automatic cruise control, it make driving on those roads effortless. To disable the lane assist and the excess speed reminder, I just have to press and hold one button on each side of the steering wheel for a couple of seconds when I start off and I’ve done that before I’m even halfway down my road - it’s just second nature now. What I can’t disable (although I have turned it down) is the automatic braking if I get too near a stationary vehicle but mostly that happens when I’m driving like a knob so that’s my fault! I did have someone anchor up quickly in front of me once and it slammed the brakes on before I had even hit the brake pedal so could be a good thing.

Sounds like you have a 'the car in front' - it drive me nuts in Sicily forever fighting the steering. Eventually found the button to disable the feature, mind you the worst bit about the car was the 'BONG' as you drive past a speed sign and screen in the middle of the dashboard brightly illuminated white light, never found out how to switch it off.
Wife's Jazz has lane assist, has to be enabled every time you wish to use it.
