The U.K a close friend of the USA ,
Don't forget that it was some British dissidents who started what is now the USA, and then Britain wanted to govern it so they (the dissidents) became terrorists and started to rebel against the King - the cheek of it, how dare they - until they managed to beat the British army. I believe they had some help from the French - there's a thing.
They then declared independance and killed off the majority of the people who already lived there, bought some more land from France and Spain who didn't own it and fought off Mexico who did, until they had all of it from sea to shining sea.
When they ran out of land to acquire - they obviously couldn't have Canada or the rest of Mexico - they started going around the world, causing chaos wherever they went because some of the British mentality presumably survived, thinking that they were better than everyone else and the natives would be grateful for being killed by people who want to impose democracy - no it's not funny -like their native Indians were.
Because the original Americans were British, the British think - there's that mentality again - that there is a special relationship, but, of course, America is made up of people from all over Europe so obviously most of them hate the British and the USA doesn't really give a toss about a special relationship or Britain.
That's why nearly everyone else drives on the right - except British places and, strangely, Japan.
