No it is not a fact. They pulled that shirt because it is offensive (to a far reaching and influential audience) or else they would have laughed at the moaner and said try it buster.

But that was exactly the point of this thread Noseall, the instant PC reaction to someone being offended, even if there was no real validity or necessity to their offence. The person who complained may not have know the context of the tee-shirt, but there was nothing whatsoever to suggest it was racist in any way; it was after all, only the beginning of a nursery rhyme that is no longer used with the original racist words, yet is still used by many children nowadays as a choosing rhyme. Primark pulled the tee shirt out of automatic fear of the PC brigade going rampant. It's a shame that they didn't just suggest to complainant watch the episode, and so see the reason behind the design.

What I would like to know is since the rhyme is very old, and the n-word wasn't always used in the past (and not used in recent history) that it should always and forevermore be deemed as a racist rhyme? It's been used in fairly recent movies, music and TV without much fuss, as well as kids using the tiger word in many a playground - why does that none of that matter? Why was it acceptable for many a year to sing the song with 'tiger' - why does everything have to be racist these days?
Blighty, When I was at school we learnt nursery rhymes. one of the very first I learnt was Baa Baa Black Sheep. In the early 90's my youngest daughter started primary school and one of the very first nursery rhymes she learnt was Baa Baa Little Sheep. Apparently the original version didn't meet with JohnD, Wannabehimmyagain and Nosey's approval so words had to be changed. They (or at least liberalistic people like them) perceived the very mention of the word "black" to have racist connotations. Around the same time Robertsons dropped the Golliwog badge, which for years had become a collectors item, as this too was deemed highly offensive to certain people (none of them actually black though)

Well, from your posts, the t shirt in question doesn't meet with your approval, so tell me why Baa Baa Black Sheep, or Robertsons Golliwogs would ?
Where did I say I disapprove of the tee shirt? Not my style admittedly but I wouldn't bat an eyelid. I can understand why people would find it offensive though.

You are silly Judith.
