Not so wonderful Copenhagen

Heard this on the radio. Seems to be partly down to EU regulation not permitting inbreeding which I found a little ironic given the nepotism and old boy network that prevails within the system.

One would have thought it not beyond the wit of mankind to transport the animal elsewhere and thus avoid it's culling. :?

That reminds me of that 'Fierce Creatures' film.

Why don't they do something really useful and cull some of our politicians? After all, the House of Commons has become quite overpopulated and the Lords is, from my perspective, unnecessary in its present form.

I reckon about half of the present number, or perhaps less, would be beneficial.

So, it's ok to have zoos for our entertainment, but as soon as they start managing them the animal huggers get on their high horses (so to speak).

There are some heroic armchair warriors on this forum, always quick to respond to the 'bait'. It must be real satisfying waving your arms from the sanctity of the office chair.

Take off those rose tinted spec's you are all wearing and put on some real ones so that you can read between the lines. Or even the FULL story will do.

There is a difference between managing animals, and killing them for the sake of it......anyone who thinks this was done for management is deluded!!

I would think that 'animal huggers' as you call them would probably disagree with the concept of a zoo anyway.

Serious question noseall. It seems you have no compassion towards animals and I was just wondering why?

I'm sure zoo'z do provide a good service with endangered species. Many zoo's join in the breeding programs. These help to maintain the genetic diversity, so we can help animals in serious danger of extinction. The only other answer is to lose species at an alarming rate.

Yes, I agree with the breeding programmes which try to undo mans desire to kill everything but disagree with standing there gawping at an animal in a cage. Unfortunately even the breeding programmers think it is ok to kill a giraffe because it doesn't have the correct genes.

Jeepers you are naive.

Why would you be astonished that a breeding programmer or geneticist would be keen to destroy an animal that yielded poor genetic distribution.

Genetic diversity is essential for the survival of any species and is especially relevant to caged animals.

Breathtaking ignorance. Typical clueless animal hugger. Keen to sympathise from an armchair whilst munching on a juicy burger.
