I guess either the authoritative person (PC etc) has to decide if an excuse given is reasonable or not, faced with a balanced situation, I reckon advice may be tendered - probably best for potential perp to QFO if not, then an on the spot fine can be levied -
further argument will probably lead to arrest.

Pretty much it innit?

I have. I only found out a couple of years ago that vans are subject to 10mph less than the displayed speed limit on certain roads. This in itself seems ridiculous, white van drivers are the safest drivers on the roads, should be exempt from speed limits if anything.

Exactly

Thats what I say , we should be exempt from this speeding caper ;)

Any way next year Transam will have 2 motors on the road that are exempt from MOT and road tax

and may be even the congestion charge ?

Why is it that when someone says anything against the police that speeding is always the main argument?

So the police are allowed to operate outside the law because some people speed? nice.

I can only speak as I find..
So can I. And I find the police to be less than what they should be.
...the constant crap they must put up with from sections of the public must make them seriously jaundiced and sick at times. They are products of our times and tainted by interactions with many vile unpleasant characters daily.
They must know what kind of people they are going to be dealing with. And they still choose to join up. If they can't deal with it, they shouldn't be police officers.

I'm sure that there are some real police officers who don't like booking dangerous criminals doing in excess of 24 MILES PER HOUR in a 20mph dual carriageway.
I'm also sure that many do not book these out of control mad drivers, a real plague for the society, and use their common sense by pretending not to see.
IMO anyone who says that doing 24mph is driving dangerously is a psycho who should be locked up and doped to the bones so not to spread this nonsense.

"Excuse" implies you are doing something you shouldn't be.
Makes you sound like you are at school and just got told off by a teacher.

Yes, have you seen the documentaries by Adam Curtis?

I've only seen his film "Bitter Lake", which is very good. All about a meeting between FDR and the King of Saudi Arabia at the end of WW2, which is said to have led to the infiltration of Islam into Western countries that we are suffering today. Highly recommended. (It's a musical with lots of jokes and high-kicking chorus girls.)

Back to the video..
The structure of the law is sound. He focuses on the wrong acts, which I'm surprised about, because he normally gets the hang of most of it. The restrictions are in the devolved legislation. http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/350/contents/made for England. He also misunderstood the applicability of the ruling of boddington v. BTP https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld199798/ldjudgmt/jd980402/bodd02.htm

The thing I dislike about this vlogger, is he mixes fact, news and rumour to make his point. The best defence anyone can have against lockdown fines is not challenging the authority of the law, but to argue that their reason for being outside was within the very generous definitions of reasonable excuse. That would give you a at least a 50% chance, which is statistically better than the magistrates court avg. So much of the above is open to interpretation and by the time any of this got to court, the lockdown will be a distant memory and nobody will remember what the fuss was about, or what rules were in place when.
