Had it with parents house built 1954, told dad it needed re-wiring, he said I am not living in a building site you can do it when I'm gone, which is exactly what happened. Wooden back boxes, it seems he was boosting when built how the house had 6 x 13 amp sockets, my grandfathers only had two 15 amp sockets. By time it came for rewire there were sockets everywhere, all fitted by dad, many spurs from spurs, and it was the newer thermal plastic wiring which showed signs of over load, the thicker old stuff before we went metric was fine.

Seemed to be the lighting cables which were crumbling, not power, but must have been faults as could not fit an RCD as it tripped all the time, and the insulation resistance was different each time checked.
