In gone days I used plumbers mait, but since a few years ago a good plumber introduced me to basin mate and mcalpine traps, I don't put anything there and never had a leak.
Thanks a lot guys also another question do I need to use PTFE tape when I connect the the flexi pipe from the tap to A cut off Vale 15mm or quarter inch .
I think they are flat faced the shut off valve hut not sure .
Then i have 15mm copper running from the isolation valve .
No, flat face against a flat face usually needs a fibre washer.
Use PTFE tape where there is a tapered threaded, where the seal is on the threads. No attempt should be made to seal parallel threads, the seal is formed elsewhere.
Use nothing on a compression joint where there is an olive, or at a pinch a wipe of Mait.
Another vote for plumbers mait. My tip, don’t need it in the fridge, use a drop of water and it becomes more pliable and find it doesn’t stick to my fingers either.
