plumbers mate vs silicone basin waste install

Hi all

do you recommend to use plumbers mate vs silicone for the install of a bathroom waste. i've got a sprung slotted wasted.

if you do recommend the plumbers mate do i need to buy extra / different washers

1. Someone has to say it. Plumber's Mait.
2. I use it:
2a. Because it doesn't set, which means the waste can be removed in future without a crowbar.
2b. The basin can be used immediately without waiting for silicone to dry. This means the overflow can be tested immediately.
3. You shouldn't need any extra washers. However, I'm also a believer in using the "Basin Mate" rubber seal which:
3a. Goes under the basin.
3b. Comes with the necessary washer(s).
3c. Stops the water leaking down the threads if the overflow operates.

Plumbers mait vote here too -Tip -Leave the plumbers mait in the fridge overnight the day before the job . (Stops it sticking to your fingers so much )
Does my nut in when I get arrive at a job and see gallons of silicone everywhere all over the waste .

(Plus it’s usually always on a Friday afternoon)

Thanks a lot guys also another question do I need to use PTFE tape when I connect the the flexi pipe from the tap to A cut off Vale 15mm or quarter inch .

I think they are flat faced the shut off valve hut not sure .

Then i have 15mm copper running from the isolation valve .

No PTFE needed as it’s the rubber in the flexi that creates the seal.

Silicone for me, judiciously applied, only where and when required and certainly not gumming up the threads.
