Replacing kitchen light

I wasnt doing it right. But I found the switch live wire so wired light up but doesnt turn on... nevermind will get someone in. Thanks for your help anyway.
 
Why don't you wire it up the same way as the light you removed with the help of the photo you took or diagram you made before you removed it?
 
Unfortunately I did not take a photo of the previous light that was up and how it was wired. The photos posted are of it's current state.

The previous light was an old strip light with a mess of connected wires... none labelled. It's going to be something really simple that I just cant see.
