No it isn't, the Russians never made any serious attempt to occupy the city.

That in one form or another is modern warfare when towns and cities feature and soldiers defend them. Throw in missiles of various types a well. It means less body bags for the attacker.

So it goes missiles, shelling, mortars and then small arrms fire. If that attack works what do you think the retreating will do - much the same in reverse if they can as distance increases,

End result - a mess and who damaged what? That isn't defending the Russians - it's warfare.

The Russians are probably suffering badly in Mariupol. Trying to dig out troops from a defensive position is very expensive in terms of lives. That doesn't mean they won't win but they are going to take a kicking on the way to exterminating the last hold outs.

As the Ukrainians have said, the infantry portable weapons stopped the Russian tanks, but it was Ukrainian artillery that killed them. Thankfully they're being shipped more artillery and ammunition as well as Fire Finder radar.

As to the Russians, they're not fighting for their own country or homes. Their morale is fundamentally weaker than Ukraine's. Will Russian forces retreat or surrender when they're surrounded or will they dig in and fight to the end?
