Been driving our latest vehicle fitted with the gizmo - a revelation !! I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked and more to the point how much I had been monitoring the speedo these last few years.
The 'over-ride' is easy, throttle pedal pressed beyond the 'hard' point enables acceleration beyond set point max speed.

Anyone using at all ?

Our work vans are limited. I don't have a problem with it....some lads are upset about it...

The Renault limiter ( plus cruise control ) adjustable from steering wheel activating buttons... A licence protector also allows full attention on road - an old cliche - but I actually noticed the difference... Topping piece of kit.

my van is limited to 74mph. please god someone tell me how to disable it. its a siemens limiter and if i could find it id rip it out in a flash.

Why do you wish to travel faster than 74mph? Its a respectable speed, and is about the most efficient cruising speed in most vehicles. Oh, and its faster than you SHOULD be going anyway!

What's the point in a speed limiter that limits one to 74MPH like the one above if you are in a 30MPH zone??

Anything else would have to be tied to a GPS, which opens up cans of worms, etc, besides which, you're unlikely to speed much in 30 limits anyhow, the problem is on motorways, where people can be tempted to do 150% of the posted limit etc

I assume the limiter is at 74mph to enable full speed to be obtained on motorways even when the tires have worn down a bit, but not allow them to go much over? This is in contrast to wagons which have limiters set at 56mph, but are legally allowed at 60mph on motorways

Personally, I'm not sure a solid limiter is an amazing idea, not that I'm condoning speeding, but imagine a busy single lane in each direction A-road, stuck behind a wagon doing 45mph (legally allowed to do 40, but hes speeding a tad), now with a limiter set at 74mph, overtaking shouldn't be too hard, but if it were say gps-locked to 60mph, it might be a bit harder, on similar lines, one can dream of a few situations where you might need to quickly get out the way due to yours or someone elses mistake and a limiter jumping in the way might just not be cricket!

Personally I think they'd save more lives by increasing the speed limits for wagons than sticking cameras everywhere, but that wouldn't make any money!

Best thing for not getting tickets is cruise control I reckon (or simon's vans, 'soft limiter', set it at the limit on long straight roads that you are liable to creep over on, and then concentrate on driving rather than watching your speed, but it doesn't get in your way should you need to go faster momentarily - should be careful with using cruise on wet roads though, can't lift off the trottle as easy if it starts to aqua-plane or anything like that

So I guess no one posting actually has a family car with cruise and limiter, it is not the same animal as a commercial vehicle limiter.
:?:

Cruise control is a bit worthless on UK roads and only comes into its own when cruising down the Californian Coast. :D

Yes my car do :D

On Top Gear Jeremy Clarkson done a test with the cruise control and the limiter and they found it used more fuel and therefore it's not economical :!:

I wouldn't be without it though

its a pain in the arse when overtaking thats why. you know the scenario. the man or woman who can only do 55 in a straight line, hit a few bends and its back to 40. to overtake in that van needs a decent run up. once ive timed it perfectly to overtake i find myself on the wrong side of the road and limited to 74 whilst he/she is still accelerating. highly annoying.

i should mention that whilst the speedo says im doing 74 i am infact doing 68. they forgot to check before they put it at 74 i suppose.

its also handy for blasting back home late at night if you are not limited to 74/68
