We have heard that for over a decade now, and the sad result is that on an average working day, a copper spends 1 hour on patrol, due to paperwork and more paperwork.
And most of that 1 hour is spent driving around catching people driving without a seatbelt and other nonsense.
That brings fighting crime down to about half an hour per working day.
If that.
:evil:
Let's give them another term, and see if we can bring it down to 10 minutes per working day.

It's all about New Labours obsession with targets. Arrest a shoplifter for nicking a packet of bisquits gets the same Browny points as nicking a burglar.

Arresting an 80 year old woman for prodding a hoody with her stick, accumulates the same Browny points as arresting that 7 foot gang member that will kick a copper unconscious, so the granny gets arrested.

Motorists are of course the easiest targets and that is why they are targeted the most.

I thought they employed all those PCSOs to take care of paperwork? So what are they doing exactly other than walking around pretending to be real police officers?

CAMERON'S 10-POINT PLAN
1. Freeze council tax for two years, saving typical families £200;
2. Re-assess 2.6m people on Incapacity Benefit in a welfare clampdown;
3. Replace Human Rights Act with a Bill of Rights:
4. Reduce number of MPs by 10 per cent, ministers pay by 5 per cent, cut quangos;
5. Honour the Military Covenant and ensure troops are properly equipped;
6. Cut corporation tax to create jobs, reform inheritance tax to encourage saving, reward marriage and families via tax and benefits;
7. Sort out national debt and public spending;
8. Give head teachers the final say on exclusions to restore discipline in schools;
9. Suspend ratification of the Lisbon Treaty if it is not in force and hold a referendum;
10. Double magistrates' sentencing powers from six months to a year, harsher penalties for knife crime, cut police paperwork so more are on the beat.
Well according to this no10 on daves list is going to help.

No, the PCSOs are there as window dressing to cover the fact that the plods are in the station doing paperwork.

Then some prat at the Home-office gave the PCSOs extra paperwork to do and as a result there are fewer and fewer PCSOs seen on the street.

No great loss there apart from millions of taxpayers money wasted on nitwits filling out yet more forms.

Blas did you read no10 0n the list which has some bearing on the thread.

all populist stuff but what is the average working man going to spend there £1 ish a week reduction in council tax on :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

Would rather see a £1 a week reduction, than a £3 a week increase. Give me more populist stuff like that to replace the trends this idiotic government has brought us.
(violent) crime is off the scale.
police don't come out for burglaries anymore
reporting a crime results 9 times out of 10 with receiving a crimenumber as the final action.
National debt higher than ever before
taxburden higher than ever before
unemployment higher than ever before
number of civics (like cso's) higher than ever before
number of potholes in roads higher than ever before
number of days between garbage collections higher than ever before.
number of people seeking medical help after assaults higher than ever before
number of businesses going bust higher than ever before

And to rub salt in the wounds, pay for mp's higher than ever before.
