Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right

in the 50's and 60's London gangsters had the corrupt police in their pockets. pimps, strip clubs and pornographers paid regular bribes which ensured any new entrants to the trade got raided, so keeping competition down and profits up.

knives and guns were used by criminals then, and still are now.

non-Whites suffered appalling and open discrimination.

The Krays lived with their mum but still committed murder and torture and got away with it for years by terrorising the community

Britain made huge profits from the Triangular trade and only gave up slavery, against much British resistance, when after many years it became less profitable.

Life is hard now, but if you think there was a time in the past when the world was good, you are fooling yourself

the idea that retribution will prevent or stop mankind from continuing a trend of criminal wrongdoing to one another is as bonkers as believing that mankind will ever live in perfect harmony.

retribution may make the victim feel good for a small period of time, but how long before the victim needs that feeling again.

i have not the foggiest how i would behave should any harm befall my family or friends.

but what i do know is that ending the cycle of eye for an eye lies with the victim.

What a good idea, that'll stop them in their tracks, what about the feathers!

I am not surprised some feel that their own justice is necessary, although it's not my POV.

However, I am surprised that some say it depends what the "crime" is as to whether they would take the law into their own hands or not.

I think some have too much testosterone if they would consider a physical punishment against the person (or property of someone) who they felt had said something to displease them.
