Whilst the outcome is the same, targeting someone simply because of race/skin colour is worse...

Why...cannot always find out the reason behind the crime, hate or not, just as bad..if you stab someone,,no idea of his sexuality,turns out he is gay,,your sentence is doubled,,fair????...He becomes a muslim after you stab him,,becomes a hate crime,,sentence doubled, ends up bloody stupid.

Does it mean that a perpetrator should get a heavier sentence if he is motivated to attack his victim because of his race or religion.?
So if a racist stabs a bloke to death because they are Muslim or whatever does that mean the racist should get a heavier sentence than someone who stabs another person to death simply because he didn't like him.

Two people are stabbed, both are white one in the course of a mugging, the other because the person was white ie targeted because of their ethnicity / race. The mugging was mainly due to the persons desire to steal and get money, the racist attack was somethng more deeply ingrained in the person psyche.

How would you deal with them? Same sentene?

So are you saying that all crimes of a particular type should get the same sentence, regardless of the circumstances?

Shoplift some fancy goods and you'd probably get a fine or suspended sentence...

I'll gladly stand corrected - if true.

Whilst it does say 'racially motivated hate crimes', is that the case?
Were these people of whiteness targeted because they were white, or are they counting, for example, attacks against Polish people, LGBT and/or women by other white people, oops, sorry people of whiteness.

If they are truly 'racist' attacks then that must mean that the ethnic minority is 50 times more likely to commit these attacks - i.e. 20% of the population commit 10 times as many hate crimes.

I am sure that is not true.
