Wooden Wall Light....no earth

Thanks blup. Your comment is very helpful. How do I use the earthing rod clamps?
These are earth rod clamps:

This is what earth rods look like:

They're 9.5 or 16mm in diameter, which should give you an idea of the size of the clamps.

I am really looking forward to blup's explanation of how you could connect a clamp to your light....

I know he doesn't mean to use an earth rod.

Various earthing rod clamps are available like these. In the absence of double insulation you should use them,

You have to find a suitable size and fit because you are fixing the clamp to the metal of the light fitting and attaching the earth conductor to the clamp to ensure continuity. That will probably drilling a hole through the metal. I’ve done it with a small machine screw , nut and serrated washer. The trick is to wrap the conductor around the machine screw and keep it in place with the washer, soldering it can help. It’s all a bit heath robinson, and given there’s limited space to work on the fitting, which will need to be flush to the wall, it might be impractical to achieve it.

There is absolutely nothing on that page, which I would consider as slightly useful to your problem.

All you need, is either a hole in each metallic part, a nut and bolt, plug suitable small cable lug, OR - instead of the nut and bolt, a self-tapper. The meatal bracket, and metal lamp-holder, both need to linked together by wire, and the wire terminating in a connector, into which your earth wire from the wall cable, also goes.

Great idea Pete. You've been really helpful. So attach the earth tag ring to the metal cup and run an earth wire from it to the earth wire already in the wall? Would that make it safe? Also someone mentioned that the wires look aluminum as opposed to copper? Do I need to do anything about that? Thanks so much for trying to help me.

You could change the 2 core for a 3 core if that makes it easier, when it's installed, minimum I would do a continuity test from the metal holder to a known earth (local socket pin for example)

It looks like it is screwed to something metal.

What is that part and how is that connected to other parts?

IIRC the bulb holder is moulded onto the wire and changing it is not possible, I don't recall it being troublesome
