Avoid points on a Driving Licence!

I received this email today from a friend & not sure if I should post this here , as I am not sure if he's pulling my plonker... Only accountants could come up with this one

Pay your fine, but, NO POINTS DEDUCTED, !!

Read on :-

This is how the points get added to your licence:

If you get a fixed penalty notice through the post which also carries
penalty points, the computer system first sends you a demand for the cash.

When you have paid, it then sends a demand to return your licence for
endorsement.

It cannot handle the licence endorsement and the payment at the same time,

And it cannot process the points part of the system until the financial
section is complete.

If you overpay the fixed penalty, it must issue and send a refund cheque for
the overpayment.

Therefore, overpay the fixed penalty by sending a cheque for the full amount
Plus £1.

The computer will then automatically generate a refund cheque for the
over-payment and send it to you.

###Do not cash this refund cheque - DUMP IT.###

The system then remains 'open' and cannot generate the 'send your licence

For endorsement' demand part of the program.

It does, however, record your payment of the fixed penalty, so it does not
trigger the 'follow-up unpaid fine' stage.

As there is no human intervention, the system will leave you alone, since It
has got your money, which is the primary objective!

Ok, So how true do you think this is, or should I just go & sit in the corner with a "STUPID" hat on me ......

the last speeding ticket I got through the post asked me to fill in the admission of guilt and send my licence WITH the payment... so how do they figure that?..

I've heard of this before but I've never spoken to anyone that has tried it, so would like to know if it's a urban myth or actually true and no I'm not going to try it out for you.

According to Snopes.com its a myth.
Care to try it and let us know?

Urban myth too, though I would not like to try it.

I have messed them about with a speeding summons, when it came to signing the admission of guilt I very carfully lined up a template on the printer, and printed all the details on the form in the correct places, including the signature box, thinking without my signature they could not progress....wrong, was threatened with wasting their time and would be fined accordingly in my absence.

Yep, same here. Load of rubbish and I guess you'd never get your license back until payment is processed.

Oh - and by the way it's illegal for a policeman to arrest you if he's not wearing his helmet

Ah yes but this is what my girlfriend did, i didnt believe her for one minute until a year or so later it happened to me and i tried it and it worked for me also and its the gods honest truth.

She got an NIP through he post saying shes been caught speeding in a 30 by a hidden camera van, a day later she got another one saying the same only this time it was on the return journey on the same day, it can only happen to a blonde cant it lol!

Being a bit laid back and not really taking things seriously she ingnored them thinking they would forget about it, well a couple of months or so later she got the reminder or whatever they call them and she ignored them again. At this point she decided to tell me what had happened as she couldn't hide it from me much longer, i think i said something like they'll issue a warrant for your arrest and it worried her a bit.

Well after it played on her mind for a bit longer she rang the police headquarters up, the number was on the NIP and she filled them with a pack of lies. She said that her flat mate and her had fell out and that she started hiding her post but this only came to light once her flat mate moved out and she found 6 months worth of hidden and un opened mail while tidying up including the NIP's from the police. She told the person on the phone, most likely a civilian what had happened and was very sorry and basically admitted guilt, she could hear some keys being pressed on a keyboard after answering some basic questions and then to her horror, suprise then relief the bloke told her not to worry about it as they'd been taken off the system because they didn't get a reply from you.

Well as i said above, i got caught about a year later so i tried it, i thought no way would it work again but i ignored the first NIP but thought well if i get the second then i'll bottle it and just reply as i don't really want the hassle.....................................well im still waiting for the second letter to come and its now about 4 years on so i think i got away with it.

This is the truth, none is made up i swear on her life, cant on mum and dads cos they already passed.

They will wait until you die and then claim it from your estate, with accrued interest. Then, just to complete it, they will give you a 1 year driving ban

I know somebody just like you from another forum i frequent. He owns a subaru and a caterham and insists ne never has and never will speed, comes up with allsorts of analogies and even compares speeding to drink driving.

For your information my GF was caught at 36mph which is 1 mph over what your legally allowed to do before being served a NIP, are you seriously saying you have never exeeded 35mph in a 30? Truthfully now ;)

Or, everyday I drive past one of those "your speed is" signs, which flashes up my speed. It has yet to coincide with my speedo (and we're not talking swimming trunks) - I invariably do 29mph by my speedo -strange coincidence bu true - the sign flashes up numbers between 24 and 32mph.

So, just how accurate is my car's speedo (even different type pressures can vary the reading away from accurate). Thus a ticket for 1 to 5 mph "over" should be treated with the contempt it deserves

Words of wisdom indeed. He's right, you know :!:

easier said than done in my opinion, i haven't had a ticket for years yet the other day i was driving along a dual carriageway in Southampton and drove past a mobile camera sat in the middle of the road at about 34-36 i would think. round the next corner are 2 fixed cameras with a sign saying 30 at this point i thought oh sh.. having looked i now find the whole road is 30!! but there are no signs for well over 1/2 a mile to remind you its 30 mile a bloody hour!!
