Why is gas boiler installation so costly?

Guess these guys who think a combi swap cant be done in day are the guys who take 2 hours to service a back boiler /half hour to remove and replace rad valve on a drained system etc etc.
Stop fa#nnying around drinking tea and actually get on with the job f##k me its 4 screws and alter 6 pipes that are just where your working and add a bit of plastic.
A 500 quid boiler is no harder to fit than a 1000 quid one

So you don't flush to BS7593 then (and I'm not saying powerflush)
"bit of plastic" condense can be very difficult to get out in some situations

Ok so if you want to and your not bothered about the job then maybe you can fit one in a day. But I have never done a boiler swap without a powerflush or upgrading controls etc
Maybe I don't work as fast as you but I take pride in my work which takes time

The average boiler swap for will include
Changing trvs and lock shields
Powerflush
Remove boiler
Fit boiler
Fit new controls
Pipe up (neatly using clips and a level)
Run condenses to wherever practical
Hot flush
Inhibitor
Commission

Sorry just can't do that in a day

I'm not saying it can't be done in a day, I've done them in a day, a long day granted not a 8 til 5 day, but I don't work as fast as a lot of you obviously, but I did it correctly, and was satisfied with it, I still didn't do it for £900 though as I didn't put a £400 boiler in

As I have said I only have an issue with it, if the customer is told they are getting a £2000 job for £900, which many are led to believe as they have no idea other than what we tell them

If i needed the work I would also take it, but would be very clear in telling them what they are getting, which is only right

Yeah i find it better to remove the boiler too on a combi swap it makes it so much easier .
And yes i do flush to the standard i notice you ONLY mention hot flush do you not cold flush then as you are meant to do first.

I hate to tell you this but a combi swap is what it says a combi swap it is not changing rad valves but then again once drained it takes me 5 minutes per valve to remove and replace so that in itself does not add a great deal of additional time if required.

New controls yeah plug in clock takes a whole 2 minutes or 20 mins to fit and wire up a wireless one.
Yeah i also use one of my collection of levels on the pipes and another on the boiler, straight lines and tight bends look so much neater especially with dear pipe clips and not those cheap and nasty talon ones

You say you have never done a job without a powerflush WHY has every single one said its required after the water test you have done or do you do them completely for free if not then you must be lying to your customers by saying that they are required without a water test to back it up.
In a day peice of pi55 guess you probably take a couple of weeks to do a rip out and re fit 8 rad system from scratch with at least a couple of drops.

Ok this has basically turned into an argument between ourselves that shouldn't be happening

I'm gonna stick to my opinion and that is what it is "my opinion" that from experience and the jobs I've seen done in a day you cannot properly to all regs and standards intall a boiler in a day if you can then that's fine

The reason I always powerflush is cos the regs say you must flush with a chemical and goes on to say that the most effective may of cleaning/cleansing a heating system is with the aid of a powerflush machine. So this is what I reccomend to my customers. If they don't want it they they can go else where that's how I work end of. I aim to provide a system that will be problem free for many years and get alot of reccomended work from it.

I see alot of boilers installed in a day that have been done badly as I said if you can do a good job in a day then you are obviously a very hard worker and fair Play to you

Complete rubbish, a combi swop can & is done in under a day as I stated above, granted our guy does little else but combi swops, so he's geared up for it & only take what he requires into the customers property.

But c'mon how long does it take to remove a boiler & screw another one on the wall??!!.........FFS!!

If one of our squads of two, doesn't have all the rads fitted & the boiler on the wall by 10.00am, it's going to be a long day..........But they still p.ss it, 4 systems a week 6 rads & a combi, Monday-Thursday & Friday snagging & loading up.

I'll tell you what, half of you lads must be as slow as snails or farting around most days!!!

If your dead slow, don't make out that the rest of us are leaving a sub-standard job, that's complete sh.te & you're not winning work cause you're slow..........No debate!!

I spend my Fridays snag free playing golf cos I get it right first time
Got plenty of work thanks

You say you dont want it to be an argument amongst ourselves then go onto have a dig that anyone doing it in a day cant be sticking to regs.
Well mine are fitted to every reg and on clipping of pipes and flues above regs .
So you do agree with me then that you are conning your customers by saying it must be powerflushed and not informing them that it is not a must be done ,fair play to ya if that how you want to earn extra money .
I prefer to get tore in and do the job properly and not fanny about pretending to take immaginable dirt out of the system.
Oh and i aint cheap but dont have a prob with guys that are and still do the job properly my prob is with people who say these guys must be doing it wrong.
Using the same logic all those guys on rogue traders must be doing a fantastic job because they take so long over a repair .
Or is it because they are trying to justify horrendous prices

No body is arguing that some thing cannot be done in a day :) but some choose not to do any boiler swap in a day !

Been there , seen it & done it !

1 bloke , 2 days !

Install team ?? 2 blokes I day = 2 day thay are probably only payed a pittance any way , trackers on your vans ect if they do not get out in a day they probably get docked money , doubt they know what a dust pan & brush is let alone MR sheen :) smash , bang , wallop

You see you say things like "get tore in" top workmanship that
I flush as much as is nessisary wether that be for 1 hour or 10
You not unstanding what in saying

I said I didn't want an argument and gave you my opinion that's not continuing an argument I'm stating my opinion and said fair play if u do things different

As I said the jobs I have seen that have been done in a day are a complete mess or just make it through the warranty

You are implying I'm ripping people off which I am not. Around 90% of my work comes from recommendation so my customers are obviously happy with what they are paying for.

One of customers said to me the ogher day " I know your not the cheapest by far but you do and excellent job and I can trust you do get the job done to the highest standard"
My customers recieve a high quality job which takes a bit more time and costs a bit more they know and want that
We obviously work in different worlds if I quoted £1000 and 1 day to change a boiler I wouldn't get the job
We obviously differ in opinion and it will end there

Dont want to argue but still try and have a dig by saying tore in is not top workmanship.
Eh draining a boiler and getting it off the wall in minutes as opposed to hours is getting tore in not fannying about.
Im not implying your ripping people off i am saying you actually are ripping majority of them must be dead exciting watching that power flush machine moving spotlessly clean water about.
And as i have said price has nothing to do with it and i am not cheap but just because i can make well over a grand for a change over doesnt mean i decry the guy that makes a few hundred .

I'm not ripping people off mate just accept your at the bottom of the market and move on

Just checked thought i was having a discussion with someone who knew what he was doing but see you you have only been registered about 7 years so newbie when you get a bit of experience and get up to speed come back and argue your case .
Sums you up that you actually allow your own mother to pay you , now that is bottom feeding .
If you ever get as good as me i may then listen to ya.

You flush what is neccesary so do you refund when its not as its already in your price eh NO so your ripping people of simple
