High Rise Fire

Now what's wrong Noesall, you don't normally rant like this.

You're the one who seems to be advocating burning the high rise towers not anyone else.

Or am I just missing the sarcasm, because it seem to be directed at us, rather than the ones who put the cladding up.
I'm exasperated that intelligent people can not differentiate between stuff that is able to burn within a home and arranging flammable stuff in such a way that it causes a fire to spread rapidly.

I could arrange some wood so that it forms say a roof then cover it with tiles and plasterboard.

Or......

I could stack the same wood vertically around a rectangular column so that when you light the bottom of the stack the rest ignites like a roman candle.

Seemingly theres about 600 buildings in the UK wrapped in this stuff.

I just hope Woody hasn't got a Hotpoint fridge freezer, especially FF175BP, then his wooden doors and architraves will be Ok, otherwise I would suggest he fits sprinkler system all around his fridge to be more safe. By the way a Fire Door FD30 is also made of combustible material called woodchip, just don't understand which wood burns and which doesn't! I AM completely confused now. Why not use asbestos doors?

It's got to be somewhere in the universe.

But more importantly, Health and safety regulations, are not the same as Fire safety regulations, and virtually everyone on this site should know the difference.

And this extract from the Guardian article, showed what I've suspected over the last few days; whilst K&C council may well have been negligent in the cladding used, a fire doesn't always kill people, it's often how the fire is then handled that'll determine the outcome.

“They [Southwark] failed and pleaded guilty, and they’ll be sentenced next week. But the fire brigade too have responsibility, because the people who escaped with their lives were those who ignored the fire brigade’s instructions and ran out of their flats and down the stairs, and those who died were those who accepted the fire brigade’s instructions and stayed in their flats. And of course, that would have been the right advice had the fire safety measures not failed.

“What the fire brigade failed to do is to change their instructions and to recognise things were not happening as they were meant to happen.

At the end of it, it'll very likely be shown that the victims in the upper floors will have died from poisenous fumes, and not the fire itself, so there will a lot more questions to be answered than those posed so far.

because the people who escaped with their lives were those who ignored the fire brigade’s instructions and ran out of their flats and down the stairs, and those who died were those who accepted the fire brigade’s instructions and stayed in their flats.

NOt the first time the fire brigade have got it wrong then.

A bit like the alpha piper disaster - the only ones who survived are the ones who ignored the safety rules to go to the safe modules, they instead jumped 100's of feet into the sea below. The ones who gathered in the safe module expecting rescue all perished.

Then of course there are the flats not owned by councils . but private LL

Imho all these other buildings need to be dealt with , but there needs to be some calm about it

listened on the radio this morning on about re housing thousand s of people & all the other panic type comments that are being made by every expert

in the country giving there opinion

David Lidington - new Secretary of State for Justice and Lord Chancellor - said on Question Time last night that the use of the cladding was already against the regulations.

Secretary of State for ain't got a bleedin' clue, more like.

There is no ban and the ACM panels are not "against the regulations". Building Regulations permit their use.

NOt the first time the fire brigade have got it wrong then.

Apparently, the fire brigade turned up to that freezer fire, and then left without ensuring that the fire had not spread. Usually they would check with their thermal camera.

I would expect to see some criticism of this in the end report.

In the news today, Camden Council has started to evacuate residents from their towers and sending them to various rescue centers to sleep rough on floors on mattresses, until their towers are made safe in two to three weeks time, because they now realise importance of life of residents, I suppose this is just an excuse, sure they were not asleep before, they must somehow knew what was being used on cladding their high rise blocks, this no doubt will trigger displaced residents seeking componsation.

Main reason I think is they realise that they too could end up being charged for corporate manslaughter, should something similar happens at one of their high rise. Perhaps they realised they could well end up spending some time behind bars, should another fridge catches fire, also housing the genuinely displaced people from Grenfell tower into luxury million pound apartments could send the wrong signal to those living in poorly maintained and poorly equipped high rise buildings with far fewer facilities, and cash being handed out to Grenfell surviving residents might induce ideas to wrong people and who knows we might start seeing more fridge fires in some of run down towers! hence why they are now having Fire Patrols around the clock and working around the clock to remove these panels responsible for rapid spread of fire.

in all the reports I have read, they have all spoken about insulating panels, cladding, and sprinklers, not once have I read any emphasis given to the importance of a central Fire alarm system! Or conducting real evacuation drills, and noting time to evacuate, training residents to tackle minor fires using fire extinguishers, or arranging certain residents as fire Marshals to control fire evacuation and drills etc.
