Cuts to regional bodies, cuts to stockpiles, cuts to funding.

Advice on protective gear for NHS staff was rejected owing to cost

Exclusive: DoH dismissed call for eye protection – now needed for coronavirus – in 2017

Documents show that officials working under former health secretary Jeremy Hunt told medical advisers three years ago to “reconsider” a formal recommendation that eye protection should be provided to all healthcare professionals who have close contact with pandemic influenza patients.

The expert advice was watered down after an “economic assessment” found a medical recommendation about providing visors or safety glasses to all hospital, ambulance and social care staff who have close contact with pandemic influenza patients would “substantially increase” the costs of stockpiling.

Exclusive: Ministers were warned that the NHS could not cope with a pandemic three years ago but 'terrifying' results were kept secret

Ministers were informed three years ago that Britain would be quickly overwhelmed by a severe outbreak

The report on Cygnus’s findings were deemed too sensitive by Whitehall officials to be made public but the Sunday Telegraph has established that it found:..

England's ravaged public health system just can't cope with the coronavirus

The result is the absence of any integrational, coordinating or management function at a regional level in England that could operate between Whitehall departments and the various bodies, often very local, that are charged with implementing government policy. The fact that some national bodies have adopted internal organisational boundaries that cover completely different geographical territories has also complicated the situation. This is notably and unfortunately true with respect to the key health bodies, NHS England and Public Health England.

Lay down
Relax
Have a sandwich
Take a swig of gaviscon

Get a grip ffs

And what if the pandemic didn't affect the lungs but affected the heart or liver - what then would be the point of stockpiling ventilators? You and yours would be screaming from the roof tops that the government stockpiled the incorrect equipment, why do we have all these useless ventilators when what we need is dialysis. They should have known!!!

No healthcare system in the world is sized to cope with the pandemic, that's why it is remarkable. No healthcare system in the world should be sized to cope with an infrequent pandemic, because if it were, there would be so much excess and waste. All that equipment or PPE sat in a warehouse, not being used is a waste of material and when someone comes to use it in 50 years time for the next public health crisis - what are they faced with? A dusty warehouse full of useless and aged equipment.

I get that you think austerity is bad, and I get that you're desperate to link austerity with Covid-19. It's old hat though.

You need to rethink that. Ventilators are used for heart failure.

There will be an enquiry into this caper when it ends

If any one in Government is found to be negligent than they should be held accountable

Stick em up. Against a wall for all. I care

They ran scenarios of whether the NHS was capable to handle a pandemic and failed to implement them. Please tell me the last pandemic that revolved around the heart?

Cuts to the NHS has made this more difficult to handle. You can deny that all you like.

The government were warned end of Jan what was coming.....the Lancet wrote 3 articles, the 1st on 24th Jan. President Xi phoned Johnson 16th Feb.

The government chose to listen to behavioral scientists rather than clinicians.
Chinese scientists who are at the cutting edge in these viruses could have been asked to be involved in PHE decisions making. They werent. Instead they listened to Patrick Vallance and Cummings.

Ok that's cleared that up. Then

The coronavirus epidemic in the UK appears to be starting to slow down as a result of the social distancing measures brought in by Government, a scientist advising Number 10 has said.

Professor Neil Ferguson, of Imperial College London, said: "If we look at the numbers of new hospital admissions, that does appear to be slowing down a bit now. It has not yet plateaued, so still the numbers can be increasing each day but the rate of that increase has slowed.”

I saw that earlier, lets hope it continues.

The same Neil Ferguson who said the governments models were wrong and we needed to implement further restrictions and a lockdown or hundreds of thousands will die. Yes this man has saved countless lives rather than the policy and plans initially implemented by Cummings.

And what is the only strategy for dealing with CV then?

Oh, that's it; changing peoples' behaviour.(y)
they chose the wrong strategy at the beginning so clearly your argument is wrong

Also:
listening to clinicians would have got them ordering PPE and ventilators earlier
and ramping up testing.

but they didnt involve clinicians, they listened to idiots like Cummings, so they didnt bother

Like I said, time will be the judge.
